Reflections on the Teaching in Kabuga

The last couple days were spent in Kabuga, right outside of Kigali, at a local church.  I love listening to Theophile and Frank teach, as they are so passionate about communicating the truths of Scripture to the church leaders.  I was able to teach for a shortwhile, giving a short synopsis of the five church purposes to the leaders.  I was nervous to teach, but then quickly realized that no matter how well I speak, Theophile will interpret it into something great. I did enjoy teaching them though, and I'm hoping that I'll be able to develop more confidence in my teaching as we continue to educate leaders this month.

Yesterday afternoon, I was able to interact with the kids in Kabuga.  You can easily make friends with a child here when you have a camera in your hands.  At one point, a few little boys grabbed my hands, and I decided to teach them Ring around the Rosie.  While they didn't understand any of the words, they quickly learned what "we all fall down" meant.  Next, with Desire's help, I taught them Duck, Duck, Goose.  We played that for an hour, as more and more kids from the village joined the circle. It was such a joy to be with those kids, to hear their laughter and see their smiles.

On the left is one of the little kids that I played with yesterday. He is so precious!

When we had finished the teachings yesterday, the church leaders gave Frank and I each a gift.  The leaders were so thankful for the time we spent there to teach, and they gave me a traditional African necklace and bracelet in appreciation.  They also gave me a Rwandan name, "Gusubizo," meaning "answer."  In giving me this name, they were telling me that I was an answer to their prayers.  I was really encouraged by my time with the leaders and inspired by their thirst for knowledge.

Alison, thank you so much for sharing your experiences. How neat to know you are an answer to their prayers and that they hunger for what you can teach them.

We can hear you singing to the children on the photo! We wish we were there. You received a 'true' gift from their hearts.

Alison,
love reading your comments. Seems like you fit in perfectly and I know you are learning a great deal too.
In case you have not found out Frank is very slow......in most everything and you may find yourself waiting for days for an answer to a question! ha ha If you aren't patient you are going to learn patience!!!
So thankful you are there to love on those precious Rwandan children and bring joy and smiles to their faces. Really nice to see you and Frank on skype today.
You are in my prayers!

Alison,
We are excited for your first teaching opportunity and know you'll gain confidence as you get experience and wisdom from Pastor Frank and Theophile. Such joy you are giving and sharing with the Rwandan children! I love the name they gave you and its significance. We look forward to further posts and will continue praying for your mission and your health. Blessings, Anne & Rick and Jessica

Good to hear your report. Frank was excited to have you come with him on this trip. May God continue to bless you as you share with our brothers and sisters there.
