The Context
In 100 days, starting on April 7, 1994, one of the most horrendous genocides in modern times took place in this small African country. Estimates reach as high as 1,000,000 people who were killed with grenades, guns, machetes and clubs – by their neighbors, fellow church members, and even family.
Every Rwandan today has been personally affected by the genocide. Then there are the normal global giants that Rwanda shares with the Majority World: extreme poverty, illiteracy, and disease. 90% of Rwandans live on less than $2 a day.
