On to Muhanga

Yesterday, we concluded four days of studying “Three Lessons on the Holy Spirit: Gift, Gifts, and Fruit” with twenty-three church leaders from multiple denominations in Kigali. God blessed us with four wonderful days. These leaders came with a variety of doctrines about the Holy Spirit. Some thought the “gift of the Holy Spirit” was God sending Jesus. So, there were some sound thoughts about God in general, but much confusion about the Holy Spirit. They left with a clear understanding that every follower of Jesus has “the gift” of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:38) in them; that the Holy Spirit gives “spiritual gifts” to all believers (1 Cor. 12:1ff); and that maturity in Christ is based on “the fruit” of the Spirit (Gal. 5:22-23), not “the gifts” of the Spirit. Not only were these church leaders excited about the teaching, but they were committed to teach their churches and other church leaders. Some made the commitment to review and prepare together and then as a team, teach others. This is the vision of Rwanda Challenge: to teach church leaders who will teach other church leaders (2 Timothy 2:2).

Today we travel to a rural area outside of the city of Muhanga to study “The Five Purposes of the Church” with church leaders who have very few opportunities to grow in God’s Word. I am already anticipating the joy of putting a Kinyarwanda Study Bible in their hands. God has been blessing us in wonderful ways. I confidently expect He will bless us again in Muhanga.
