Tim Maness teaching from Axton, VA
One of the plans for this trip was to try an experiment with someone from the United States teaching church leaders in Rwanda, Africa. Isaac Fultz, from Candia, NH, was responsible for the production on the Rwanda side. Tim Maness, church leader at the County Line Christian Church, agreed to prepare a lesson to share with the church leaders in Rwanda. Isaac did a test with Tim the day before the experiment. We made a few adjustments. At 3 PM (8 AM in VA) the next day, Isaac had the screen ready, projector ready, laptop ready, sound ready, and seats ready. The Rwandan church leaders were excited about this new possibility. Tim was ready in VA and the interpreter was ready in Rwanda.
It was time. Skype indicated we were online, but Tim was not. Tim sent a text that Skype indicated he was online, but we were not. Evidently Skype was the problem. Instead of aborting the plan, we decided to try Google Hangouts. There was Tim on the big screen teaching from over 7,000 miles away. The message on unity from Ephesians was clear and relevant. The Rwandans were encouraged by the teaching. I was encouraged by the potential for the future. This will not replace the need to be physically present, but it can supplement equipping servant leaders in Rwanda.
